Deck Manager - Distribution

Previously, I’d worked night shifts at a parcel delivery firm. It just wasn’t for me any more and didn’t fit in with my family life. So when the chance came to join the Poundland distribution team, I was quick to take it. I had no expectations really, as I only intended to work here as a stepping stone. But I’ve really found the chance to develop – and just 5 years later here I am as a manager.

I’ve had a really varied career path. I’ve been a picker/loader, a reach driver, a counterbalance driver, an admin clerk, and a yard person and have worked in our training dept. Now I’m proud to be a Deck Manager, ensuring deliveries go as smoothly as possible. Training helped me develop into where I am now. It’s opened my eyes to a lot.

Because I was given the chance to work in the training department for a while, I helped implement the system I now work on. It’s been rewarding to get to where I am today.

If I had any advice to give, it would be to learn about the business and about other people’s roles. If you enjoy being part of a team and being trusted to do well, you’ll enjoy it here. The company has given me every opportunity to thrive. I’m proof of what can be achieved given the chance.
